We’re taking a hiatus from our streaming on Cascadia.fm. We want to be perfectly clear to everyone who might read this post: We loved being streamed on Cascadia.fm every Monday afternoon. Besides putting us in the company of many other finely produced shows, it brought in many new listeners who started downloading the show from iTunes, Zune and our website.

We also are grateful to Robert Wagner and Sabrina Miller of Cascadia.fm who welcomed us so openly and trustingly when we first approached them about the show more than a year ago. We are forever in their debt and hopefully we’ll find a way to work together again someday. It was quite a rewarding experience. They are good people.

But when it all came down to it, we found out that making a podcast that had to be a certain length every week and had a certain deadline every week was a bigger strain on our personal and professional lives than we ever expected. Call it beginner’s hubris, but we bit off more than we could chew.

So what happens now? Soon, maybe even this week, we’re going to start the show back up again as a podcast only — no streaming. We’re not going to make any promises about how often we’ll issue each new episode, but we will promise it won’t be so long between shows that you think we stopped doing them. Sometimes we’ll go a couple weeks between episodes and sometimes we’ll do more than one show per week.

The other thing that is a massive change for our format is length. While streaming, we always had to shoot for each episode to be 58 minutes long. Now without those understandable constraints of streaming on an internet radio station, our shows will vary in length widely. We promise not to go much more than an hour at time, but there may be some shows that only last as little as 10 minutes if there’s just one subject we’re talking about that day and we’d rather share it with you sooner than waiting for the next longer episode.

Everything will be variable except for the fact that we’ll continue doing the show with some regularity.

We think that both the listeners and we will enjoy this format more. If you think we’re making a terrible mistake or you think this is a great idea or if you think somewhere in between, please let us know. We value your input. If you don’t give a crap, we’ll understand that too.

Everyone’s been asking us what’s going on with the show and we don’t blame them for wondering. We’ve done more than 20 episodes since February and have only skipped a few weeks so far so this is out of the ordinary. We haven’t had a new show up for the last two weeks and pdx.fm has been running repeats during our normal Tuesday, 3 p.m. slot.

The truth of it is, Joe’s been pretty sick and he’s the only one who knows how to update the website. So he hasn’t been able to tell anyone that the show is taking a break. Now that’s he’s sitting up at his computer for more than two minutes without feeling too dizzy, he’s updating the show’s website.

Why is the show taking a break?

Becky and Joe are getting married on Sept. 25 and have found that after dealing daily with the planning of the wedding, they haven’t had time for such an effort-intensive activity as producing a weekly radio show.

Is the show coming back?

Yes, the show will return in October. Until then, pdx.fm will be running repeats of the best episodes so far.

Where can I find out information about the wedding?

The wedding itself is going to be very small. The ceremony and reception is going to be attended by immediate family members only. It makes Becky uncomfortable to be the center of attention and so she asked Joe to keep it simple and small so that’s what he’s going to do if he knows what’s good for him. More information about the wedding can be found at joelovesbecky.com. We don’t expect gifts but we put our registries on that site because people kept asking in spite of what we said.

Do you guys have anything fun planned for your return besides stories about your wedding?

Yes, Joe will be interviewing a guest who traveled to India over the summer and will share his observations of that culture that is very different from the United States. We’ll be debuting our iPhone/iPad app with lots of extra features and behind the scenes stuff. There’s a few more things we have planned but we have to keep some things a surprise.

The good people at our internet radio station PDX.fm and PDX.am are taking Monday, July 5 off to celebrate Independence Day.

Without having a way to reach our full audience, we are taking the day off as well. There will be no show on Monday, July 5.

We’ve had some issues recently with our hosting service and that has delayed the show posting to iTunes, Zune, other podcast directories and our website. I think they were changing our account so we could launch our iPhone-iPad app in the Apple App Store. We seem to be up and running again. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. ~ Joe

This is Joe Wilson, co-host of The Becky and Joe Show, and I have some apologizing to do. Becky does not as she did what she was supposed to do. I alone am responsible for a lack of shows the last two weeks and the lack of communication to you, the listeners, about that fact.

We’ll be back tomorrow (Monday, June 14) with our Goonies-(the movie)-themed anniversary show on PDX.am, on our website and on various podcast channels such as iTunes, Zune, DailySplice, blubrry, PodBean and Podcast Alley.
